I made many projects of different shapes and sizes, colors and coverage but they all share one thing,
they are all straight forward. They can all be used for a purpose without all the extra shenanigans. I used the ancient techniques of pinching and pulling to create the size and shape of the objects. I used the pull method to make the spout of the pitcher and sides of the square bowl. All together these techniques and object complete my theme of, as I stated before, “straight forward.”
The group of works I am showing are all intended specifically for my mom. I used the green glaze for all of them, one because green is her favorite color, but two because of how it matches some of our plates and such. The way this green looks also seems homie to me. It feels warm but at the same time relaxing. We are a family who enjoys the outdoors so greens and “outdoorsy colors” are a comfort to at least to myself.
With the lidded project I used a wide array of techniques to complete the master piece. This has a little extra work done on it because I made it as a present for my mom on Mother’s Day. I first made a cylinder and from there began pinching and pulling to create the vase shape of the body. Once completed I measured the top and constructed and lid to go along with it. I drove my fingers all the way to the bottom. Once there I created a planter in a sense and then pinch a handle onto the top and cover the hole. After being fired I added broken glass into the lidded and finished the rest with a green glaze. Moving on to the pitcher, I made a large bowl like structure which I pulled on the side to make the spout. Once done with that I slapped a handle on her and called it good. Finished her up with a nice green finish as well. The square bowl is in the place of a mug which was lost to dryness after being taken and left out while I was gone on a long absence. Yet this was again pinched on the sides and glazed with green to match the set.
These projects were inspired by my momma and my family’s life style. We like to be outside thus green is very inviting. My mom also loves the color green so it suited the works perfectly to be green. All my project are for around the house and such but these specifically for my mom to use for whatever.
My projects might be simple but they have meaning and they get the job done just as well as anyone’s project with a million things hanging off them. I like what I did and did what I like so I feel this year was a win in ceramics. Even if my grade didn’t reflect it most of the year.
